Break the Algorithm secular mental health series, Sense of Self. This the second of a 12 month series covering secular mental health topics.
Who am I? What is my self-conception? What is my worldview? How do I think, make decisions, and find meaning and value in my life? The answer to these questions is a lifelong process that should be adjusted over time. This month I would like to focus on how we secular people come to know who we are or our sense of self.
First in a 12 month series covering secular mental health topics.
Secular people are often taught religious and cultural views which may not align with our secular or real sense of selves and world views. This may cause us stress, anxiety, and imbalance our overall mental health.
Each session we will explore a mental health topic from a secular perspective and practice cognitive, coping, and self exploration skills. As we get to know ourselves, we will be able to grow our strengths and develop our undiscovered potential abilities.

Pennsylvania Non-believers have partnered with the Secular Student Alliance to sponsor two $1000 scholarships. An educational presentation of how atheists, secularists, and humanists live and have values without faith or spirituality. Atheism is the lack of belief or faith in the existence of gods or spirituality due to a lack of evidence. The atheist/agnostic/secular/humanist communities do not have absolute universal or consistent expectations, rules, or beliefs. However, there are common thoughts, philosophies, ethics, and morals within these communities. Some of these ideas and philosophies include secularism, materialism, humanism, the scientific method, and the Socratic method. Morality, ethics, and beliefs are also often understood as relative but are justified by the above philosophies and ways of thinking. The presentation explores secular values without faith with participation from the OLLI continuing education class.
